Animals

Like in every World Masterpiece Theater series, animals play a major part here, too. In fact, 'A Little Princess Sara' features more named animals than in any other WMT series. The reason for this is that most of them already exist in the original novel. Some had no name, though.

Melchisedec

Melchisedec

Melchisedec is a rat and lives with his wife and 5 children in a hole in Sara's garret. First he was very timid and afraid of Sara (and probably Sara was afraid of him) but after a while he and his family became good friends with her. No wonder, it is her who provides that tasty food from time to time.

Sulya

This little monkey probably belongs to Ram Dass and is very playful. He is difficult to catch if he does not want to be catched. And there are so many interesting things in adjacent rooms which have to be explored. Sulya plays a very important role in the story. Who knows what had happened if he had not been there?

César

César

César does not exist in the original novel. He lives in the Seminary but it seems that he does not belong to anybody. People generally don't care about him too much unless if they do not want him to make any sound at all costs. Miss Minchin does not need to discover little figures sneaking about the Seminary in the middle of the night.

Jump

Sara's own carriage would be pretty useless without him. He is of good nature and lived a happy life with Peter attending to him ... until he had to leave one day.

Jump

Bonaparte

Bonaparte

Sara's parrot doesn't exist in the book. He can speak but it is only one word: "Sara". Bonaparte, too, had to leave Sara together with Jump.

Boris

Yes, even this big noble dog made it from the original novel into the anime. In the book he was a present but here he distracts poor Mr. Carrisford from his sorrows.
